Did you know that Steinway and Mercedes-Benz have a historic connection? William Steinway made many investments as was typical of the late 19th century entrepreneur. One of his investments was in Daimler Motor Company, which in later years partnered with Karl Benz and became Mercedes-Benz. William was instrumental in establishing their first American subsidiary in Long Island, New York, and the engines they produced were used in boats to ship piano parts and materials across the river to the Steinway factory.
